Cross Valley in a Cage

Pictures from China

cross deep valley in a cage

These pictures were taken on July 23, 2013 near a remote village southeast of Hefeng County, Enshi, Hubei Province. The village is isolated and surrounded by mountains, cliffs, and deep valleys with no highway or road connecting to the outside world. If villagers want to go out for shopping or visiting friends and relatives, they need to walk at least an entire day to get out. In 1997, local authorities built a 1000-meter long cable above the 480 meter deep valley connecting the two sides equipped  with a big cage for carrying people and cargo. The cable and cage system has been unchanged since then.
