Legqop

 

(1944-   )

Legqop, of the Tibetan ethnic group, is a native of Gyangze, Tibet and was born in October 1944. He has a junior college education, began to work in July 1964 and joined the Communist Party of China (CPC) in April 1972.

Jul. 1964-Feb. 1971: Teacher of the Gyangze County Middle School and its Affiliated Primary School, and teacher at Gyangze County Primary School.

Mar. 1971-May 1973: Cadre of Gyangze County’s Jinga District Committee and County’s Political Work Office.

Jun. 1973-Jan. 1975: Secretary of the Communist Youth League of China (CYLC) Gyangze County Committee, member of the CPC Gyangze County Committee, standing committee member of CYLC Xigaze Prefectural Committee.

Feb. 1975-Dec. 1975: Officer of Political Work Office of the Tibet Autonomous Region and supervision and organization divisions of the Organization Department under the Regional Party Committee and the Organization Department.

Jan.-Jul. 1980: Deputy chief of the Organization Department of Tibet Autonomous Regional Party Committee’s Organization Division.

Aug. 1980-Jul. 1986: Deputy head of the Organization Department of Tibet Autonomous Regional Party Committee - during this period, he studied at the Party School of the CPC Central Committee from Sep. 1983-Jul. 1986.

Dec. 1986-Dec.1991: Standing deputy head of the Organization Department of Tibet Autonomous Regional Party Committee.

Dec. 1991-Nov. 1994: Standing committee member of the fourth CPC Tibet Autonomous Regional Committee and secretary of Lhasa Municipal Party Committee.

Nov. 1994: Deputy secretary of the CPC Tibet Autonomous Regional Committee and secretary of the Lhasa Municipal Party Committee.

Apr.1995: Appointed as vice chairman of the Tibet Autonomous Region at the 13th session of the Standing Committee of the sixth Tibet Autonomous Regional People’s Congress.

Aug. 1995: Elected as deputy secretary of the fifth CPC Tibet Autonomous Regional Committee.

May 1998: Elected as chairman of the Tibet Autonomous Region at the first session of the seventh Tibet Autonomous Regional People’s Congress.

Jan. 2003: Re-elected as chairman of the Tibet Autonomous Region at the first session of the eighth Tibet Autonomous Regional People’s Congress.

Legqop was an alternate member of the 15th CPC Central Committee and is now a member of the 16th CPC Central Committee.
