Worked as technician of Shenyang Chemical Engineering Research Institute under Ministry of Chemical Industry 1956-1958; technician, then Deputy Director of Research Office of Tianjin Chemical Engineering Research Institute under Ministry of Chemical Industry, 1958-1973; engineer of Petrochemical Research Institute under Ministry of Petrochemical Industry, 1973-1981; studied at University of Carifornia, Los Angeles, 1981-1984.
Promoted to Chief Engineer of Scientific and Technological Bureau of Ministry of Chemical Industry, 1984-1988; Vice-President of Scientific Research Institute and then Deputy Chief Engineer of Ministry of Chemical Industry, 1988-1993; Vice-Minister of Chemical Industry and Vice-Chairman of China Democratic National Construction Association (CDNCA), 1994-1996; Chairman of CDNCA, 1996 to present.
Member of 7th and 8th National Committee of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), and elected a Standing Committee member of the CPPCC National Committee at the Fourth Session of the Eighth CPPCC National Committee, Vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of National People's Congress (NPC).
