Jia Zhibang



(1946-   )

Jia Zhibang, a native of Wuqi, Shaanxi Province, was born in November 1946. With a college education from the Correspondence School of Renmin University of China, he began work in September 1965 and joined the Communist Party of China (CPC) in April 1962.

Jia successively worked at the Publicity Department of the CPC Zhidan County Committee in Shaanxi, and the Yan’an Transistor Plant and Yan’an Radio Plant. He served as head of the factory’s workshop, standing committee member of the factory’s Party Committee, and deputy head of the factory.

Between Jun. 1978 and Jun. 1980, he studied at the Hangzhou Institute of Radio Administration, majoring in administration of industrial economy.

From Feb. 1982 to Jun. 1988, he held the posts of deputy chief at the Material Planning Section of Shaanxi Provincial Electronic Industry Department, deputy head of Economic Research Section of the CPC Shaanxi Advisors’ Commission, secretary of the General Office of the provincial government and head of the Comprehensive Department. During this period he studied administration of the national economy at the Correspondence School of Renmin University of China from Sep. 1983 to Jun 1988.

Beginning in Jun. 1988, Jia served as deputy head of the General Office of the Shaanxi Provincial Government and deputy secretary-general of the provincial government.

In August 1990, he held the post of deputy secretary of the CPC Yan’an Prefectural Committee of Shaanxi Province and commissioner of the Yan’an Prefecture.

In May 1993, he was elected as a standing committee member of the eighth CPC Shaanxi Provincial Committee.

In January 1998, he was elected as vice governor of Shaanxi. In May 1998, he was elected as deputy secretary and standing committee member of the CPC Shaanxi Provincial Committee at the first plenary session of the ninth CPC Shaanxi Provincial Committee.

In May 2002, he served as acting governor of Shaanxi. In January 2003, he was elected as governor of Shaanxi at the first session of the tenth Shaanxi People’s Congress.

Jia was an alternate member of the 14th and 15th CPC Central Committee and is now a member of the 16th CPC Central Committee.
